2024 : Tether

A whole new year! 2024.

The past year held a lot of changes for our family and I lost the ambition to write. I began several posts, which hopefully I will finish and publish. I have a better sense of direction and a renewed purpose for this space, even if only to process my own thoughts and ponderings.

My focal word for 2024: TETHER.

As I began to think about this year, this word continued to present itself before my mind. It appeared in movies I watched, books I read, and conversations I had. To be fastened to another, to restrict movement, to secure, or to limit can be a strength rather than a weakness. I seek to be so strongly tethered to the Lord and His Word that it directs, guides, and preserves my every thought, movement, and action. To not strain against the limitations God has wisely given me and to not desire to go where He has not led is a practice in self-control and reliance on His power.

My verse for 2024:

Deuteronomy 13:4

You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

Hold fast. Persevere. Stand firm.

One of my friends once said, “When Jesus becomes your everything, everything else just comes.” Such a simple yet profoundly strong statement. That is my goal for this year: to so strongly tether myself to the Lord that all I say and do reflects Him. Then no temptation can overwhelm and refusing my own sinful flesh feels satisfying rather than strenuous.

I seek to hold fast to the Word of God and desire to live out its truth to my family, especially as we read through the Bible chronologically together. I pray I will correctly fear the Lord my God and walk in obedience to His commands. May my daily life be a testimony to my faith and trust in Him.
